Slim grew up on the West Side of Chicago. During hard times the family
did like most of the poor Chicago residents. They occasionally went down to
"Maxwell Street" The trip, usually on a Sunday, meant that you could
catch a bargain, eat one of those famous polish sausage sandwiches and maybe
catch some guys playing some good raw blues on the sidewalk. Those trips would
make being poor not quite so bad. That upbringing and roots to family roots
in Mississippi and Arkansas is where the music comes from.
Chicago
Carl Snyder plays keyboards. Carl spent 30 years in the Windy City, where
he worked with a great number of blues artists, including Junior Wells, Otis
Rush, Son Seals, Jimmy Johnson, Louis Myers and Jimmy Rogers. He played on two
albums that won Handy Awards and two that were nominated for Grammies. He also
appeared in a film (Blues Highway) that was nominated for an Academy Award.
After moving to Pennsylvania in 1996 he launched his own record label Lost World
Music. Says Carl "Illinois Slim is a real talent and a terrific guy to
work with. I believe he is destined for a great career in blues".
